Project type

Date
January 31, 2020
Location
Kennedy Center, Washington D.C.
Video 2
Role
Curator, Culture Ambassador
At a time of civil unrest in response to the #DontMuteDC movement, the Kennedy Center, world renowned performing arts center in Washington D.C. asked me to curate a GO-GO music series.
Understanding the massive influence Go-Go plays in what it means to be a Washingtonian and native of the DMV metro area being a product of it myself, the 101 series underscores its significance to our city and black heritage. It was so much more than an art form. It was part of the fabric of our lives.
It was an outlet.
It defined trends.
It created worlds.
Its where so many of us found ourselves.
Found love.
The Go-Go 101 monthly performance & education series at the Kennedy Center was a discussion & musical timeline examining where we’ve been to better sustain where we want to go. The series was cut short due to COVID.
